Set yourself on fire

Let’s talk about motivation.

It’s a simple concept on the surface.

But there are a couple myths I’d like to bust today.

#1 – You don’t lack it. In fact, it’s in your DNA.

Every human is motivated by either pleasure or pain. And most people are motivated by the latter.

Understand this first and self-motivation becomes infinitely easier.

Every circumstance involves choice. And all choices have consequences.

For example, choosing to not eat might lead to severe illness or even death. Or choosing to not shower EVER AGAIN might lead to fewer friends or even disease.

We don’t need to be motivated to feed our kids or practice good hygiene.

Yet, when it comes to live streaming, creating memes for Instagram or emailing prospects, you may find it harder to feel motivated.

Here’s how to make it easier: Look at the consequences of NOT doing something first. You’ll find an inner kick in the ass pretty quickly.

Bring the consequence, the PAIN of not doing it, to the forefront. Face reality and you will be more motivated.

#2 – Motivation is not something outside of you. You don’t get it from others, or from events or circumstances. It’s in your head.

You run your mind, not the other way around.

So let’s assume you’ve identified what you are not doing and you are now choosing to become motivated to do it.

Start by telling your mind you WANT to do it. You are choosing to do it. You LOVE doing it.

Your mind will absolutely give you the focus, energy and drive to see the task to completion.

#3 – Believe you can.

Self-doubt is, without question, the single largest issue among all the women I’ve worked with in more than a decade in this industry.

We don’t believe it’s possible for someone like us. It works for others, not us. We have to be special, and we aren’t.

That’s the fastest way to lose motivation, not to mention it tanks self-esteem.

So stop it.

Instead, tell yourself you can. That’s it’s fun and easy for you. That you will always figure it out.

Trust me, getting excited about your goals is the best way to feel amazing about what you do each and every day.

And who doesn’t want that?

XO
