Full Blue Moon Ritual – August 22nd
August’s Full Moon in Aquarius is a Blue Moon that reached its peak the 22nd at 8:02 a.m. EDT.
It’s the second of two Aquarius Full Moons this summer, this time bringing charged energy relating to personal, material and spiritual growth, intimate relationships and long-term partners.
This Full Moon in Aquarius is a Blue Moon because it’s the second Full Moon in Aquarius. The first was on July 23 – the third of four full moons in a single season.
Typically, there are three full moons per season. But because June’s full moon took place just a few days after the June solstice, it was early enough in the season to squeeze in four full moons this summer.
The third is today’s Blue Moon. And this unique aspect makes for a powerful Full Moon in Aquarius, calling for breaking cycles and embracing change (which was reflected in the tarot reading).
We are being asked to confront our darkest selves and take a stand, and break free of the attachments that have been dimming our light.
This Full Moon culminates at the last degree of Aquarius, inviting us to awaken to the full splendor of our own light.
Tonight’s spell included sea water, a shell, roses, a list of things to release and I called in the energy of Aphrodite. (She loves all the things I used.) I also included 13 white candles for the 13 cycles of the moon.
As the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and fertility, I thought her energy would be appropriate as we all find our way through this cutting away of the past and learn to love ourselves more deeply.
I asked the cards to show us the circumstance, the issue and the resolution. Boy, did they ever.
Card #1 – The Tower – Change, chaos, revelation, awakening
I’ll be honest, I expected this card.
A blue moon in Aquarius for the second month in a row is calling for a reckoning.
The Tower says expect the unexpected – change, upheaval, destruction and chaos. There’s no escaping it. But it’s always for your highest good.
You may get extraordinary clarity or insight, a new perspective, a hard new truth or something else. The result will be you building a new, solid foundation because the old one was flawed.
The best way forward is to let whatever it is self-destruct so you can rebuild and refocus.
You will grow stronger, wiser and more resilient from here.
If you are highly aware and in tuned in, this card can indicate a spiritual awakening or revelation. You may be able to see the cracks forming and take action before the whole structure comes down.
No matter what, this card is your opportunity to break free from anything that’s held you back.
Card #2 – Three of Swords – Negative self-talk, releasing pain, optimism, forgiveness
This card is encouraging you to pay attention to your inner thoughts and self-talk. Are you prone to self-criticism, limiting beliefs and negative self-talk?
Start paying more attention and look at how you can shift your thoughts. You have what it takes to be the person you deserve to be – once you stop shitting on yourself.
You may also be hypersensitive to others’ words. Let go of the hurt that these words are or have caused you – it will only hold you back – and do some self-reflection.
What has triggered your feelings and why? And how might you address the underlying issue?
In this position, the Three of Swords asks us to be much more forgiving of ourselves in order to release pain and step into a new version of who we wish to become.
Release it all under this full moon.
Card #3 – The Emperor – Authority, establishment, stability, security
This card suggests you are adopting a “fatherly” role, providing for family and/or protecting and defending your loved ones. You may be the breadwinner or the ‘rock’ for those who rely on your stability and security.
The Emperor represents a powerful leader who demands respect and authority. Status, power and recognition are essential to you, and you are most comfortable in a leadership role where you can command and direct others.
As a leader, you rule with a firm but fair hand. You have a clear vision of what you want to create, and you organize those around you to manifest your goal.
Conflict doesn’t scare you, and you won’t hesitate to use your power to protect those you care about. And in return, those people will repay you with the loyalty and respect you deserve. Claim your authority as leader and influencer and don’t let others put you down.
The Emperor reflects a system bound by rules and regulations. You create law and order by applying principles or guidelines to a specific situation.
Create calm out of chaos by breaking down any problem into its parts and then mapping out the actions you need to take to resolve it. Be systematic, strategic and highly organized in your approach – and stick to your plan until the end.
The Emperor card also signifies world knowledge and expertise. Through the course of your life, you have gained valuable wisdom and life experience, and now you enjoy offering guidance, advice and direction to someone who might benefit from it.
Circumstance: Sweeping change to the core
Issue: Shitty self-talk or tolerating circumstances you know you don’t deserve
Resolution: Rise the fuck up and embody what you see there
